Updates to EN 61000-3-3:2013

EN 61000-3-3 is part of the European standard concerned with the limitation of voltage fluctuations and flicker impressed on the public low-voltage system. It has been fully revised by experts to bring it up to date with technological developments and industry best practice, with some minor changes coming into effect.

Updates only apply to a section regarding cooking appliances and in Annex A2, where the title has been changed to Test Conditions for Lighting only.

Generally, lighting does not create flicker with relation to this standard as there are no load changes once lamps are on. A new statement says that only lights likely to cause flicker will need to be tested, therefore allowing some cost-saving for testing.

Although this standard is some way from being introduced into the Official Journal for CE Marking, the Gulf States GSO Mark has already adopted it. We are set up to test to this new version.
